By good numbers, you mean #25 passer rating, behind such luminaries as Rex Grossman, Alex Smith and Jon Kitna. 16th in touchdown passes. He had the 4th most interceptions in the league, tied with Eli. 5th worst completion %. 8th worst in yards per attempt. The only stat he was above average was total yards at 6th. I'd say anybody but Brett, and you'd conclude he put up lousy numbers.
For note, Jerry Rice was 22nd in receiving yards in 2003 - still very respectable for a 40 yo receiver.
