This wasn't a mistake or oversight. This was "no we will not pay our employees with relative pocket change even though their lives will likely be altered in a major way over a couple months with no money, because we don't have to".
And the response wasn't "Oh man, we didn't know how much they'd be impacted by loss of wages or how little it would be out of our pockets". It was "Oh ****, we tried to sneak this through but it's blowing up on social media and reps are getting dozens of cancellation threats, now we have to do something. It sucks for us to be out this pocket change but let's just do it and shut everyone up".

Yup, sums it up accurately IMO.
Said it prior, proud the players stepped up but uhhh, I'm really left with a sour taste in my mouth for the organization on the whole. Their other charitable causes are neat but also organizationally and league mandated. This was a moment to really show their colors and flopped.
