Talbot has been just okay. In my opinion, not perceptively much better than Rittich. It is good he is getting the start tonight and I hope he runs with it. But in the end neither of the Flames's goalie is making a particularly strong case to start in the playoffs right now. This is the month to make their mark.
Those stats are still better than Rittich's stats over the timeline as I feel there is a book in shooting blocker side on him right now. Plenty of pucks squeezing in on that side. I'm no Talbot fan as I'm of the opinion the organization should move on from him and try to find a solution for the starting role but I feel he's let in less soft goals over the year even if he makes less spectacular saves. I was hoping Rittich would grab onto the starting role this season after failing to unseat Smith last year but how many years can this organization give a guy? IMO Rittich has a higher ceiling but also a lower floor than Talbot and at the end of the day this goaltending situation is basically a re-run of Kidd/Tabaracci where the team had two guys that weren't good enough to seize the starting role.
