Just to clarify, as I used to work at a lumber yard, 8' 2x4's are infact longer than 8 feet. 8' 0.25" I believe someone already mentioned. 8' studs are a totally different animal and are shorter, as someone else aready mentioned. So the guy isn't that dumb
