Just seems weird to me. I'm picturing Treliving calling up SJ a year from now to decide on what the terms are and it seems SJ would just offer up their least valued asset, because they've already got the player and I can't imagine the NHL would overturn a trade a year later if they can't come to an agreement?
I guess it probably only works with players that really have no value at all, but still I wonder about these things.

"Future considerations" has no long-term ramifications, really. It's just the hockey equivalent of doing a solid.
If anything, this should put to bed the weird speculation from earlier that Treliving has somehow alienated his fellow GMs into all consciously deciding against trading with him
