I just don't understand the stand pat approach. If you aren't willing to tinker to provide any kind of jolt, then why not maximize on a guy like Brodie if you don't think this is the year anyways.
Again, in classic Calgary flame fashion, "do anything for the guaranteed x2 home playoff game $$$ baby".

That's the thing here, and why I don't really get on Treliving for "not selling".
Likely not an option for Treliving to sell any of our UFAs due to the circumstances, especially considering our injuries. He still needs to try to get into the playoffs since that's the edict from his bosses.
But at least he's not mortgaging even more of the future to try to make that happen and just sneak in to lose a around.
I actually think Treliving has had the right strategy the last two seasons now. Don't mortgage the future, try to make hockey trades that make sense (I know people don't like the talk of it but both the Kadri and Zucker trades would have been good deals for us IMO), and keep the window open as long as possible.
Ideally we'd have the ability to move one of Brodie or Hamonic right now but honestly I don't think it's an option without bringing another d-man in at this point. We are already playing Stone, Kylington, & Yelesin due to injuries to three of our start of the year top 7 d-men at this point.

Longer term a lot of the issues tie back to the Neal signing.
- Signed Neal to fill RW hole in top 6 but it didn't work
- Meant Flames didn't have cap space to go hard after Stone at the deadline with Tkachuk a pending RFA (although I'm not sure I'd want him for 7 more years at $10M anyways)
- Flames then moved Neal for Lucic which created an even bigger gap at RW
- Flames didn't have cap space for extra defensive depth due to Neal/Lucic contract, and Valimaki got hurt
Due to all of that we have huge holes at defense and RW right now.
