After acquiring Nazem Kadri approximately six games ago and declining to negotiate trading him with other teams, the Hawks have dealt Kadri + the first round pick in 2021 + Henrik Borgstrom to LA.

In return the Hawks receive Ryan O'Reilly and a lot of cap. Some of the cap is for this season ($5 mil) and a portion is allocated to next season ($3mil).

From the Hawks perspective, we have acquired one of the best 2-way centres in the game and someone the Hawks plan to keep on the roster for an extended period of time. While it hurts to lose Kadri, who is on a great contract for 3 years, the opportunity to get a center with consistently great SC and DF scores is a win. The pick next year can be recovered and Borgstrom was signed as a free agent. A steep price to pay, but this deal solidifies my top six for the current season and the future.
