Can't we? For the amount of money that goes into the NHL and how much is spent in the production of each game, they could certainly put more resources into the officiating.
I was really hoping that when the NHL announced their closer ties to Vegas and the gambling industry that there would be more pressure to make the officiating 'perfect'. The way the officiating is now with the emphasis on 'game management' over calling the game based on the rule book, I certainly wouldn't feel comfortable gambling on anything in an NHL game other the 50/50.
Kane's elbow and Kassian's kick are just the most recent examples of how poor the in-game officiating is in the best league in the world and the NHL's attempt to close the gap by adding some post-game hearings only highlights the problem further. I doubt disciplining the officials would help either.
