That would be so disheartening when the team looks to be too weak to contend as is. So basically we're likely going to shift gears to shoring up our defense before the trade deadline so we can...…...tread water and fight for a playoff spot with no hope of contending?

What a disaster

- Almost picking Zucker/Kadri, deals fall through

- Valimaki injured killing any chance of further off season moves to bolster forwards

- Brodie and Hamonic won't negotiate during season

- So we will trade one for a top 6 guy

- Gio gets hurt, Hamonic gets hurt

- Now we likely won't get a top 6 forward for the future because we need our two pending UFA defenseman just to keep our Defense afloat

- Brodie has bounced back and looks like a good defenseman that you'd want to re-sign, but the Flames likely have info that he's going UFA

- So now we're going to sign a pretty much guaranteed regrettable contract in Hamonic, while letting Brodie walk for nothing because we have to keep this mediocre 2019/2020 team with their eyes on the prize of mediocre, uninspired play to maybe grab a wild card spot and get knocked out with a slight breeze. Plus we'll now likely pay a price for a another defenseman that helps this ****ing season. Disaster.
I think you've pretty much nailed it.

I think when Giordano went down, the Flames were heavily searching for a defensive addition.

I think Giordano's injury is worse than they are saying because they are being coy with the trade market on how badly they are looking for a defender and don't want to betray their position.

I think Hamonic getting hurt right now probably results in him signing a better contract with the Flames than he otherwise would have. If he's injured through the deadline instead of being a tradeable asset, the pressure will be on to both

1) Not lose him for nothing come free agency
2) utilize him down the stretch for the playoff push.

#2 probably means him playing injured, and I don't think he's willing to sacrifice UFA money by risking further injury, so the Flames will have to pony up up on a deal to get him to suit up in the final games of the season.
