But same outcome, as Tkachuk can take the awarded qualifying offer after year 3 and walk to UFA without having to negotiate another contract.
Slightly different contracts but same premise: GM can't afford long term contract on player he sees in long term plans because of cap constraints. We were one off season Frolik dump away from having Tkachuk for 6-8 years. Rumour is New Jersey backed out on Frolik and that was the difference between our future captain being signed long term and being walked to free agency.
