There is also a considerable risk to the down ballet candidates if Sanders is the nominee. A huge part of the electorate is going to not want anything to do with what either candidate is selling. The moderates that reluctantly vote Sanders may well split their ticket to ensure Sanders can't actually implement anything, or they could stay home or they could decide that Sanders socialist policies are just too far left for them to be comfortable supporting and vote for Trump. All those scenarios hurt the house and senate chances, and pile on to that all Republicans will be turning out like crazy to support house and senate candidates for fear of letting the communist have any power. Sanders as nominee could very well hand Trump another 4 years with a Republican house and a large Senate majority.
