Desperately trying to get this team into the playoffs, when they've clearly proven for over a calendar year that they would not be able to raise their level in the playoffs to be competitive enough to even win the first round (against a likely high seed at that), would indicate how short sighted the vision of this franchise is, as well how delusional their belief is.

I think the desperately try and get the team into the playoffs motif is primarily an ownership view, not a GM view for the most part.
The guy they hire to replace him will be equally an idiot, and your franchise would still be doomed.
