I want to see this team start building an identity in their play. We don't have one right now. Not a fast team, not a big/physical team etc... I think we have the defensemen to play an up tempo, fast skating, puck moving/puck control skill type of game. I think we need to target forwards now to support this. I'd look at guys like Athanasiou from DET for example to start. Also hire Gallant to enforce this style more. Less players like Jankowski who are big, but charmin soft, and who have a low motor, no speed, and no real play driving capabilities. We're still looking for that #1 center we need that can control the play. For now, we can still build other areas of our line up towards playing that fast, skill game.
Gaudreau, Monahan(For the right price, for another center)
Backlund, Jankowski, Lucic(easier said), Rieder,
Can all be replaced off the top of my head.
Turning Gaudreau into Taylor Hall(If he would sign here) + other assets from Gaudreau trade is a decent start as well imo. Hall skates well, drives the play and isn't tiny.
