They never singled out players or particular plays in the past unless it was a foot note in a game review. Now they are just outright looking for controversy and are willing to get them by smearing players. Rittich should tell TSN to stuff it next time they want an interview.

The hypersensitivity of Oilers fans and the relentless complaining is to blame. Networks know what plays, and I am sure they have dedicated staffers to monitor the social media channels like CP and HF and Oilfans and Reddit too see whet the hot topics are, and then fire off some clickbait headlines.
The notion that they are some sort of bastion of journalism died when they made Craig Button the "Director of Scouting" and other junk like Dreger and his pathetic antics come trade deadline time. It's now all about clicks and hot takes and stirring the pot to get page views. The legion of snivelling Oilers fans, and who knows if there are more paid complainers like they got nailed with years ago, pushes the media outlets to pay attention to try and capitalize.
