Gio definitely has a history and a tendency to stick the leg out when he gets beat. I don't think (based on the way things happen when he does it, not on me knowing him at all) that there is any "intent" of conscious maliciousness in him doing it, he's not trying to make a dirty play. BUT, his lack of intent, doesn't stop it from being dirty when he does it, and responsibility falls to him not to react in a dangerous way when he gets beat.

However, I'm not even sure I'd put the McD thing from last night in that category, and I'm not sure I see it even as the same type of leg extension as what we've seen him do in the past. It's more just a natural movement to turn with the play, and McD is also taking the risk to slip by him. If it wasn't for the fact it was McD, if it wasn't the cultural whine of the Oilers organization has created the past two years, and to some extent if it wasn't Gio because he now has a rep for this type of thing (which in fairness has been earned) this would be a nothing play. Not even worth a mention.
