I think that in a few of those 'kneeordano' situations players are trying to move out of the way, and leave only their leg in the contact zone.
Granted there was at-least one that was blatant. However, often, people see that a player gets hurt, and refuse to account for the fact that players often put themselves in a compromised position trying to avoid what would otherwise be a flush hit.

The only one that I can think of where it was the player moving at the last second was Aho. Every other recent one, Koivu, Fowler, Ryan, were Giordano getting beat and hanging a leg. The Koivu one was real bad as he trapped Koivu into the wall and hung his leg.
