Complete shock. This wasn’t just a famous celebrity or a really good athlete. Kobe was an icon that transcended basketball and even sports.
I wasn’t even a big Kobe fan back when he played but certainly recognized his accomplishments on and off the court. One of my favourite stories I read about him on the Players Tribune a few years back:
