Better to buy? I don't like the idea of having to purchase extra KMs; is there any other way to do it?

My dad leased a car several years ago and was forced to end up using it for courier work for a while. The car was wrote off in an accident about 6 months before the lease expired and the insurance took care of the rest of the lease etc. A month or so later they sent him a bill for ~12k for the km he racked up on the car despite the fact that the car was sitting in the scrap yard.
Lesson learned: Always know what your actual KM use will be, and what it costs when you go over that.
