I honestly believe our biggest issue is we only have 1 RH shot in our top group of players.
The shooting angles, ability to do one timers, board play and body positioning for protecting the puck are all impacted by the handedness of the players.
We are too easy to defend because we don't have enough guys throughout the lineup to compliment all our lefthanded talent.
How many of the teams in hockey nowadays have all but 1 of their top offensive players shoot the same way?
Pasternak/Bergeron/Krejci, MacKinnon/Donskoi/Makar, Ovechkin/Oshie/Wilson/Carlson, Stamkos/Point, Nylander/Marner/Barrie, Giroux/Konecny, Panarin/Strome/DeAngelo, Seguin/Klingberg, Wheeler/Scheifele, Barzal/Eberle/Pulock, Stome/DeBrincat, Perron/Pietrangelo, Connolly/Trochek/Ekblad, Hornqvist/Rust/Letang, Eichel/Reinhart/Ristolainen, Atkinson/Bjorkstand/Atkinson/Jones, Weber/Gallagher/Petry/Suzuki/Armia, Gusev/Palmieri/Vatanen, Chabot/Pageau, Mantha/Hronek, Garland/Kessel/Schmaltz, Boeser/Virtanen, Stone/Marchessault, Arvidsson/Ellis/Forsberg, Burns/Labanc, Getzlaf/Rakell/Silfverberg, Doughty/Brown/Carter/Toffoli
There are only a few like us:
- Carolina with only Hamilton as a RH shot in their top group, but they also have Necas who is coming along nicely as a young up and comer.
- The Oilers well they have 2 of the best in McDavid and Draisatl and basically a patchworked team after that.
- Minnesota. Need I say more.
We have Lindholm and Ryan who has done admirably as a bottom 6 player but is not someone I would put in the same group as anyone mentioned above.
