They have to do this to fill out their depth because they don’t keep their own picks. They’re constantly running on borrowed money, and then they wonder why they never take the next step into contender status.

I don't disagree with you. I have just noticed that you have been very dire lately. I am all for a good old fashion my team sucks pitty party, but I don't think this teams current formation is bad at all. Actually, I think that the Flames should be a playoff team for the next 3 years after this year. Primarily because they've done an excellent job at building within.
8 of 13 forwards were drafted in house
4 of 7 Defencemen
1/2 Goales.
15/22 is a respectable amount of internal development.
Moreover, only four players have been brought in by trade, and only one player was acquired with picks.
I don't get the sense that the Flames are running on borrowed money at all. The only reason their prospect pool seems grim is because all of their top prospects have graduated, or by and large are out of sight because of their injury status, or the teams they play on.
Its not like the Flames are hurting for picks last year or even this year or any year except for the 2018 draft. and even in the 2018 draft Mathias Emilio Pettersen is being reported, by third party scouts , as trending to be an NHLer .
The Flames have 8 picks next draft, I am fine with using any of them but the 1st. This is a win now team.
