Filling out the list was even harder than I thought. A lot of games that got incredible reviews, I couldn't really get into. So some of my list might make you go 'huh?' but looking over the games I actually put the most hours into a few weeks ago, made me realize some of the big blockbusters aren't always my favs

1: The Last of Us - I think Corsi summed that up nicely. More than a game, it's an experience. It's about the adventure, the journey, and most importantly, the characters. The fact that the actual gameplay is fantastic is just a bonus

2: Grand Theft Auto V - Another simple choice, still play it to this day and was one of the rare games that I'd think about at work that I couldn't wait to get home to play. Rockstar doesn't just create a game, they create a fantastic parody world of modern america. Plus carjacking a supercar and running from the cops never gets old.

3: XCOM 2 - Just a blast, huge replayability with the different characters plus the expansion. Always a gut punch when you lose a character you've been keeping safe and training for hours

4: Squad - Probably the best FPS I've played since BF2. The way it implements teamwork and a game where the battlefield feels much bigger than yourself is something that nobody else does. Canadian developer to boot.

5: DCS World - Probably a little boring for most people, but this is a masterful combat flight sim. My biggest off the board pick for sure. Wasn't sure I'd really vote for this but given the time I've dumped into it, I simply can't ignore it. My most played game on steam. The detail and realism taken to model certain planes is amazing, the steep learning curve is what keeps bringing me back as I spend hours and hours reading manuals just to try and figure out how to use the F-18 rader. A game you really feel like you accomplished something when you think you've mastered a plane, and a huge feeling of pride when you complete a tough mission. The game doesn't hold your hand at all. Game still has some huge things planned for the future as well

Honourable Mentions: Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Red Dead Redemption, Uncharted 4, Civilization V, Company of Heroes 2, Mafia II, Mass Effect 2
