I think a lot of people still associate him with Feaster, and a lot of people didn't like that Feaster was fired. See also Sven as a Feaster proxy.
People used to say "yeah, he didn't get a lot of value for Iggy and Jaybo but his hands were tied" and "the ROR thing would have been decided in the Flames' favour". But moving from 14 to 21 and then picking Janko was a bad decision and could only be defended if Janko lived up to Feaster's prediction. As it turns out, all but maybe two of the six picks from 14-20 are better than Janko, and they are not just a little better - Wilson, Hertl, Teravainen, Vasilevsky. And the other two (Ceci and Zemgus) are probably more useful.
