I don't think that was overlooked - it's the question people were initially asking, and all the subsequent discussion around his choice assumes they would be willing to do that. A lot of posters assume the owners are too cheap to pay Laviolette. I think that's a tad unfair as a description, but certainly they'd not opened the vault for coaches recently. GG was cheap, no doubt, and Peters was market rate for a coach of his experience.
