2. Dallas
3. Calgary
However, what if the hotter, humid climate in Dallas does not appeal to Massachusetts native Laviolette? Then maybe he ranks the cities as such:
1. SJ
2. Calgary
3. Dallas
If Laviolette is more concerned about his coaching legacy, opportunities to win or advance his career than he is about demographics, amenities and climate, then he most likely has SJ at the bottom of his list:
1/2. Dallas/Calgary
3. SJ
Moreover, with a higher concentration on the Flames roster of US borne players, perhaps this weighs more heavily into Laviolette's decision:
1. Calgary
2. Dallas
3. SJ
The point here being that there are all sorts of things to consider beyond location and salary. I would be pleasantly surprised if the Flames were to hire Laviolette, but it seems silly to me to dismiss the possibility outright.

Never say never but I won't hold my breathe either. It would be a pleasant surprise though.
