I think the only real way you get around that (besides only targeting people with local roots, or being a perennial contender) is to offer enough money to offset those issues. Laviolette may not come here if he gets the same amount as he would in SJ or Dallas...but if that becomes a million or two more per year? Perhaps then things change.
Personally, I'd rather we reduce our internal team cap by $2-4 million, and use that money to lure in better coaches and scouts. It's a better use of money in the long-run.
