A more accurate measure of how desirable Calgary is as a destination would be the proportion of players putting the city on their NTC. And on that metric we’re bottom 5.
It would be interesting if you looked through 2 different lenses instead:

1. His salary in Nashville was $2.5M, was it not? That's a great deal of money, but you're further out of touch with "societies elite" than I am if you think $2.5M is "rubbing elbows" impressive. I'll bet he has a nice place and is pretty comfortable, but I don't think most players and certainly not coaches are the huge deals you seem to think they are.

2. Not everyone who has money wants their lifestyle to be dictated by it. Some people might value the qualities you listed regardless of the fortunes they're swimming in. Living, breathing, talking, having relationships, taking in events, etc all matter. What if he's really into skiing, or likes mountains and fresh air a whole lot? I, for one, would be pretty bummed to go live in today's America... and I'm perfectly happy to travel to beaches a lot better than SJ when I have time to relax... With all that money, I'll fly first-class and have someone shovel my driveway in the winter.

These people have families, values, futures... and not nearly as much money as you think they do.

And again, this is very specifically a coach we're talking about here. But is there a list that Calgary is bottom 5 on? Where are the other Canadian teams?

PS.
...what do you know about the list btw (I also know nothing), and what's dismissively generic about it? An opinion, followed by a list of researched qualities seems like a perfectly good way to have a discussion. Try and be more receptive to it...

If your opinion is that those qualities don't matter to "societies elite" and that an NHL coach is a part of that, why not try and have that discussion?
