I think the one thing that made Rogue One so great is that even though it was kind of the same old thing we've seen in all the Star Wars movies, it felt original.
The scene where Jyn says if were lucky enough to land, we take the next chance, then the next one after that, until we succeed or all chances are spent. That was like... OK that makes sense, lets just see how far we can get, we have no choice but to try.
And in these Star Wars movies it felt like they were just like OK impossible odds but we will just do this and we win. Over.. and over.. and over.
But all that being said, I still found a lot to enjoy in this movie and the trilogy overall. If nothing else it was great to revisit so many iconic characters and scenes and see how things would close for those characters.
The scene with Ben and Han was amazing. They did a good job of using Leia enough to make her feel like part of the movie and give her a proper send off. I thought his redemption was very well done, and it was awesome how they didn't try to truly save him, but save him just long enough to save Rey.
I thought the force voices part was amazing as well, I loved how they gave a nod to all of the Star Wars cannon material with that. And seeing the Ghost show up was amazing even if it was already spoiled.
Overall I was happy with the movie. I still really think Rey's questions should have been answered in movie 2 for max impact, because when they said she was a Palpatine I was just kind of like ... OK, whatever, now what? But Ian Mcdiarmid did such a good job portraying the character again, it was great.
Billy Dee was on point with Lando, he just nailed it. Smooth silky tone, some great classic moments like "i've got a bad feeling about this" and his expression while he pilots the Falcon, all of that brought a smile to my face.
When I saw the charging horses on the death star in the trailer I was very worried, but it actually played out relatively decent. It was originally meant to be a planetary mission but they had to adapt and switch it up. Having Finn meet another ex Storm Trooper was pretty neat to actually.
They tried to really force the whole we're Han/Luke/Leia 2.0 objective in this movie, a little to hard IMO.
But overall I am not going to pick it apart, I am going to be happy that I got to see another Star Wars movie in theaters, that I have more cannon material to look forward to in the board/video games I play and that we got an end to the Skywalker saga.
