Agreed that this was a pretty depressing movie. Not sure why you would title a film "Marriage Story" and have it entirely focus on a couple's divorce. I was also disappointed that the film revolved around a couple that was in show business. I think it would have been so much more interesting if it was about a middle American family that weren't the cliched Hollywood couple. The ending also bothered me:

It is presented like Charlie and Nicole have come to an amicable place in their relationship and both are now happy with where their lives are. I can see how this could be the case for Nicole since she now gets to pursue her dream career while living in LA like she always wanted to. Charlie, on the other hand, was forced to move to a city that he hated and lost the opportunity of his lifetime when his broadway show in New York was cancelled due to him having to be in LA so much. Just bugged me how a man's life being torn apart (whether he deserved it or not is another story) is passed off like a happy ending.
