One thing I'll say is that Knights of Ren were good in theory, and looked cool in photos, but were never a good idea for this trilogies story from Day 1.
If the idea is it was also a group of "Force Sensitive" individuals that Kylo had spared when he left Luke's training then that was just going to create the issue of having the bad guys of 6 Force Sensitive guys that were partially trained already.
It also just didn't make sense because in TFA, TLJ, or even TROS the Knights of Ren were rarely actually with Kylo, so not like Kylo really relied on them even when it was still "bad".
If you keep them and then Rey & Friends somehow defeats them then they just look weak, or it causes Rey to look even more overpowered than she already did.
The one thing I'll agree on is that a strong hint of Palpatine at the end of TLJ would have made it much better. If in that last scene where Rey/Kylo were linked one last time as the Falcon is about to take off, and you had them both hear Palpatine laugh, and feel a disturbance in the force that would have been a great tease.
I think the anticipation for TROS coming out of TLJ would have been much higher, and people would have been less frustrated about Snoke being killed off.
If they were to retrofit one thing into TLJ that would be the thing to add.
