New thread, based on the frustration many people feel in finding new music in the enormous multi-verse of new music.
Based on music you already like, the helpful members of the Calgarypuck community will suggest similar artists and albums you may enjoy. You may not enjoy every recommendation, but if we can be turned on to even a couple of new favorites, then mission accomplished!
Corsi listed the following albums as personal faves . . . some really good records on this list. I want to start with his choice of Alvvays, one of my favorite bands (Canadian too):
Quote:
Here are some artists and albums I enjoy.
Sufjan Stevens (Illinois was the best album of the previous decade; Carrie & Lowell was inconsistent)
Father John Misty (I Love you Honeybear)
Lykke Li (I Never Learn)
Arcade Fire (The Suburbs yes, but Reflektor no)
The XX - XX
Sharon Van Etten (Tramp; Are We There was ok)
The Shins (Wincing the Night Away)
Feist (Metals)
Bright Eyes (I'm Wide Awake It's Morning)
Alvvays (Antisocialites)

Here are a few selections that I see as connected to Alvvays – bands with some serious "girl power", who fill their music with great pop hooks (like Molly Rankin):
Jenny Lewis – On The Line (2019) The Voyager (2014)
The Beths – Future Me Hates Me (2018)
Vivian Girls - Memory (2019)
Sacred Paws – Run Around The Sun (2019)
Julia Jacklin – Crushing (2019)
Courtney Barnett – Tell Me How You Really Feel (2018), Sometimes I Sit And Think, And Sometimes I Just Sit (2015)
Ex Hex – It’s Real (2019), Rips (2015)
Bat Fangs – S/T (2018)
Sheer Mag – A Distant Call (2019)
Juliana Hatfield – Weird (2019)
Walrus – Cool To Who (2019)
New Pornographers – In The Morse Code Of Brake Lights (2019)
Best Coast – Fade Away (2013)
Next time I will try to find connections to the amazing Sufjan Stevens - Illinois.
