The Coyotes have not made the playoffs since 2012. That was so long ago they were not even named the Arizona Coyotes, that was the Phoenix Coyotes. Can't really fault them for trying to make the playoffs with the makeup of their team. Have great goaltending, good defense, and okay forward depth. Having Hall, Kessel, Schmaltz, Keller, and others will make this team make a splash in the playoffs. With how wide open the Pacific is and the Yotes on top, why would they not go for it? I applaud them for doing this, it's nice seeing other teams make the playoffs other than the norm. Plus, nothing would make me happier than seeing the other Canadian teams and California not qualify for April hockey.
I live in Blue Jackets territory, and it seems like this is the minority view of those in the area. However, they do feel this logic to make sense of what happened.

Hindsight is 20/20. It could have been worse.
