Do you really think this group misses the playoffs if they add Taylor Hall and subtract Bennett/Kylington/Valimaki/cap dump?
Tre has to realize he screwed up not trading Valimaki for Stone when he had the chance. I don't care how good you project Valimaki to be, you trade him for a modern day Marian Hossa.
This is the year to go all in - you don't know when Gio will begin his decline, you don't know if you'll be able to retain Gaudreau (or want to), you don't know who you're going to lose in expansion.
They have a goalie. They have a very good defense, top to bottom. If they can't get a Ryan Kesler #2C, the next best thing is a former MVP with the explosiveness to back off the opposing D a bit.
