True, though those guys are replaced by Hall plus a couple guys that total about $1.5M like Reider and Davidson.

For example cap calculations are ran daily. If a team is $500,000 under the cap every day for half the season then they can add a 1 million dollar player without sacrificing anyone from their roster.
Regardless I’m sure NJ would be willing to retain some money for half a season if Calgary was offering the assets that they liked the best.

These are also true. But Calgary is, right now, if I read CapFriendly right, will have $3M or so at the deadline on that basis (though I can't understand how that works with the projected hit of $82.6M). The money still doesn't work without a heftier salary gone, or retention. I don't think Bennett/Kylington are worth a retained salary Hall to the Devils. They will have better offers.
