Given the propensity of
every single thread to degrade into a talk about Trudeau and his Arabian costume and how a very vocal part of CP is starkly against it, I wanted to do a bit of a poll to see what is and isn't acceptable in 2019.
First up: eye black.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eye_black
There is
no evidence that wearing black stripes under your eyes helps you see/reduce glare. As such, it seems to have become a kind of 'war paint'; that is, wearing black on your face makes you look more intimidating or focused. Is that racist?
Emoticons.
Many mediums allow the user to choose the skin color of their emoticon. See:
If I'm white and use black emoticons regularly, is that racist?
Finally, costumes.
It's pretty clear between Trudeau and Aliu that we can't dress up as a person of color. That's racist. But what about dressing up in a costume
without blackface? Is that racist? If I want to go as black panther for Halloween even though I'm white, can I?
Along that line, what about 'alternative' colors. Example:
Is this costume offensive to other species?
Any other examples of these sorts of things?
