They told me to buy Lubriderm unscented lotion. That's what I bought. As for water and scrubbing, yes, they explained that as well. I wash it carefully and dab it with a dry cloth.

I didn't know what to get either, so I went in and looked through some of the books they had of existing ones. I saw this one and we adjusted it a bit and went with it. It just jumped out at me.

As for hurting, well, it didn't feel great (kind of like roadburn if you've ever fallen off a bike and scraped yourself on pavement). That's about the best way I can explain it. The first 60 seconds or so was interesting and then my body got used to the feeling and it was OK. Let's be serious here though...remember what they are doing. It's not going to feel like kittens licking you are anything... It really wasn't that bad though. The fact that people hardly ever stop at one tattoo should tell you that it's not that bad.
