Brodie has been the 2nd best defenseman on the team from the day Bouwmeester was traded. He can skate stride for stride with the other team's best players, he's an elite shot suppressor, he can lead the rush up ice, and generate offense 5v5.
He has the worst shot of any professional hockey player I've ever seen. It's not hard, it's not accurate. Many times, it struggles to reach the net. If I had to chose one player in the whole sport to shoot a puck at my concussion-prone mother's helmetless head, it would be TJ Brodie.
Brodie has 6 straight 30 point seasons, and if his wrist shot was even 20% better, he probably has a few 50 point ones in there. Then his occasional defensive muffs don't look so bad, because he's a 40-50 point 1st pairing stud who handles the puck all the time - turnovers are just the cost of doing business.
Alas, TJ can fire snappers in front of a school zone radar truck for five hours and not once receive a ticket. So he'll never get the respect he deserves.
