But I think that message is wrong now too.
Even just doing what you stated in your example is calling out to that young child that "Iggy is different than you". Which is the exact mentality that we need to move away from as a culture.
If you want to dress up as Iggy, Aladdin, Michael Jackson, etc then there is no reason you can't wear the costume without the blackface.
The better message that we need to be sending is that we are all equal regardless of the colour of our skin. So if that kid wants to go out in his hockey gear, and Iggy jersey and go as Iggy for halloween then that's all he needs, no need to paint his face to "be like his idol".

I gotta say, I've never once seen a Trick-or-Treat aged child dressed as anything that could be described as 'problematic'.
As for the adults. Let's all take a step back, and try to remember the true meaning of Halloween. Once a year, at the end of October, all the women let their inner stripper out of the box. For one night, all the world's a garden, and you need only find a hoe.
