I'm not overly surprised that the Jays can't get a free agent to sign.
- They are not a contender
- Old Stadium with turf
- Tough Division for Pitchers Stats
- Higher Taxes
Plus unlike the Raptors who have built a strong reputation, and who can pull from a more international free agent base, the Raptors don't necessarily have that with what appear to be mostly american free agents this year.
And I'm not sure paying an extra $2-3M a year, or an extra year of term, to get a mid-tier free agent to sign with them at this stage is a great idea. Maybe a year or two for now when the window is closer to opening but not now.
It's possible that contract is bad in a year or two and just takes up $$$ from a guy that could actually help in the window they need to contend in.
