Sometimes we'll grab a boat and paddle over to the island and have a sandwich for supper. Last winter we ice fished on the lake in the winter. Sometimes my son and I will throw sticks in the water at the top of the waterfall and watch them as they try to make their way down the hill and into the lake. No barking dogs or dog crap, only a limited amount of people (residents) are allowed in so it's never too busy...I mean, it doesn't get better than that.
You just outlined all the problems. The limited amount of people while nice is essentially classist and in general I don’t like that so while I’m relaxing start to think about how building a fence around a space to exclude me from interacting with parts of society I don’t like is morally wrong.

The water fall loses all its magic when you realize a bull dozer put a bunch of rocks in and the water source is a pump recirculating the water so the fecal matter won’t anaerobically decompose. As opposed to a real waterfall where you contemplate millions of years of time passing and etching every part of what you see and it challenges your insignificance in the world.

So while you enjoy you boat onto the Island the alternative is to go into fish creek hike through the water to a spot where you can no longer tell you are in the city and look at the tall sandy banks and contemplate how the last few floods changed this land scape.

A lake community is like frozen yoghurt. Mankind’s achievement of making something that isn’t as good as the original just so they can have more
