A few things.
One, Peters had the chance to apologise to Aliu in his office in Rockford. He doubled down, and sent the kid to the ECHL and torpedoed his career. Had he said '####, Akim, I'm sorry. I crossed a line, and this is something that I will regret for the rest of my life. How can I make this right?' this isn't an issue.
Two, if Aliu goes public back in 2009, Bill Peters doesn't get hired in Detroit, Carolina or here. His NHL career over, he'd have spent the last decade in Russia.
I think Justin Trudeau is a limp-wristed phony, but I don't think going overboard at some costume parties is comparable. Robert Downey Jr got an Oscar nomination for playing an actor who overcommits to a role and dyes his skin brown, in 2008. I myself went to my freshman Halloween party in college as Jules Winnfield - I realized very quickly that I had ####ed up, and went home and changed.
What I didn't do, and what Trudeau didn't do, is scream the most volatile racial slur in the western world at a black man in front of his colleagues to demean him.
There are levels of unacceptable. What Peters did is a SSJ4 unacceptable.
