I'm not sure how bad these so called personal demons are either, seems like mostly just a bad temper to me. I did a bit of looking about Aliu and all I could find was a bar fight when he was in the ECHL and his altercation with Downie when he was with the Spitfires. Alot of people labelled him as a problem child for exposing hazing in the CHL and that stigma continues today IMO.
