It disturbs me that we live in an age where people honestly think the media is part of some deep state conspiracy to inflict gay values on good Christian white folks or some other weird right wing/Russian sales pitch.

The media will leave out parts (or all) of a story for a multitude of reasons, one of those is public outrage. Players saying someone in Peters position apologized might reduce some of the outrage and thus reduce interest in the story.
I'm not suggesting any player has said he apologized, but it is extremely naive to just assume that the media will report everything.
