Leonardo DiCaprio was playing a character who owned slaves in the pre Civil War South. "Playing a character" being the operative phrase.
And he didn't win an Oscar for Django - Christoph Walz did, and his character only says the N word when undercover to curry favor with slave owners. He never calls Django one. Or addresses any black character in that way. Leo's Oscar is for the Revenant.
I'll amend the statement: white people can't say the N word unless they're acting in a movie, and even then, they should only say it when working with auteurs.
