I don’t think it’s worth debating the possible context in which people, white or black or whatever, use the n word and when it may be ok and when it isn’t.
Fact of the matter is that there aren’t any uses appropriate for Peters to use that word in a dressing room. Sure they use language that wouldn’t be appropriate in 95% of other workplaces but you’d have to think that’s one word everyone would know crosses a line.
Aliu isn’t just saying he used the word. He specifically said multiple times “towards me” in the room. It’s hard to even fathom a situation where Peters could be using that word that isn’t insanely racist and inappropriate.
As for what will happen to him, I could see him resigning while also denying it to avoid a ####storm that could follow. No one wants to get fired and it may be easier to just step away.
If even one other player corroborates Aliu’s story, Peters is done for. If a bunch of people deny it, saying they never heard anything of the sort and Aliu can’t give more details, then I think Peters survives firing but may still wish to step away. It all depends on whether the media picks up on it and if there’s massive social media outrage.
Let’s be honest, Cherry is a much more prominent public figure and we all got to see what he said. It wasn’t a twitter post claiming something he said from a decade ago. This could fade away much faster from the public limelight.
