Unless it’s a hockey trade, player for player, I don’t want a major move. Definitely no mortgaging the future for this year. Unless we get rid of some bodies for picks at the deadline. As great as last season was for the Flames in the regular season, I was not a complete believer in this roster or the head coach. I was worried they were a bubble team. Last year there were just too many guys with career years and the team was mostly injury free.
We need to restock some of the prospects, which is why I don’t want to be trading any first or second rounders. I was pleasantly surprised at the flames prior to the ASG. However it was concerning to see how Peters had a lack of ability to adjust, clearly outcoached by Bednar. Not too say the players are not at fault either. It was a collective effort. Peters past quarter and playoff was eerily reminiscent of his inability to get much out of his world hockey championships team in 2018 when they finished 4th.
I just don’t think the Flames are a contender even with improved play. I hope I’m wrong.
