I know this sucks, but the worst thing this organization could do is get snookered in a trade since we'd be trading from a major point of weakness. Other teams know the Flames are desperate right now, don't make bad deals just to make a deal.
If they tank, tank hard. Trade some major pieces in the off season, re-tool and go from there. There are some nice young pieces (especially on the blueline), if the Flames make some decent trades they could be a good team again as early as next season.
Just try not to get to depressed watching it play out, and load up on lots of booze.

I mostly agree with this, but I think it's clear that the handedness imbalance in our top six / top 9 is a huge contributor to these annual slumps.
Assuming we are able to add one of the top two talents in this year's draft, there's no imminent fix and we could end up botching the development of a player like Byfield or Lafreniere the way we have with Sam Bennett. Balancing out the handedness, even if it means a Monahan, Backlund, or Gaudreau needs to go if we are able to acquire a top draft pick, should be on the table.
