I was thinking a lot about why I like baby Yoda but have absolutely hated all the other "cute" Star Wars characters. Basically, 3 reasons:

1. Baby Yoda is not obnoxious. The writers don't feel the need to fill every dead space with Baby Yoda saying something ridiculous or making a stupid noise.

2. Baby Yoda is part of the plot. He (or possibly she) hasn't just been shoehorned in there for the purpose of selling toys.

3. Baby Yoda is actually funny. Humour is a slippery thing, and the Mandalorians dry humour is just so much better than anything Ryann Johnson tried to cram into TLJ. It's much more in keeping with the humour from original trilogy, where the humour flows naturally from the narrative and the action sequences.
