While the 70 year old who was killed with the brick this week and the man lit on fire are both awful, they are hardly representative of everyone involved in protesting.
I don't cheer for anyone to be injured or property damage to be done, but it's angering that the government has not done anything like what they could have to find a political resolution before it reached this point. The government has determined to go this route by not working on actual political solutions to political problems and instead leaving the police to stand off against the citizens. The police only have a limited set of tools to deal with conflict. It has been bound to go on a downward spiral since creating an ongoing standoff between police and citizens and failing to show political will to satisfy public demands. It has done irreparable damage to the city, the economy and the reputation of what was a very highly respected police force and system of rule of law. All of that is tragic for HK.
