The problem with that is then your body is digesting the food while your trying to sleep. This takes a long time, and since your body is working, you are not able to go into deeper stages of sleep. If you're working out, muscle regeneration takes place in the deepest levels of sleep, so if your body is digesting, you may not be getting enough deep sleep.

Generally, I have heard for those who work out, don't eat for 3 hours before you go to sleep.
