My kids are still a bit too young for hockey but my buddy in Strathmore told me that if you sign up for Strathmore minor hockey, you have to give a $250 deposit at the beginning of the season. If your child does 6 hours of volunteer services throughout the season, you get that $250 back. If they do not then they keep the $250. Volunteer services can be at the food bank, at an elementary school, cleaning garbage with the town, and a few other options.
